Coping with Cancer North East
Coping with Cancer Christmas Appeal

Film & Campaign Description

We are a small local charity which has delivered cancer care and support for over 40 years in the North East of England.  We have not been good at sharing our name and many people think we are part of the NHS.  We hope to raise funds by this appeal, but also to raise awareness of who we are and what we do so that our name becomes known for our quality work.

Coping with Cancer North East

We minimise the effect cancer has on people.

We provide the following services to cancer patients, their families, carers and loved ones to relieve distress and suffering and to reduce health inequalities.

  • Person centred counselling delivered on a one-to-one basis over a programme of 8 sessions (sometimes more if appropriate to the circumstances) for mental and emotional support. This service is available for anyone aged 11+.
  • Coaching for living with cancer delivered on a bespoke basis dependent on need for support with living life to the fullest possibility.
  • Advocacy, mentoring and signposting for those who need further practical help with their situation.
  • Peer support groups, facilitated and managed with speakers, themes and refreshments to encourage uptake and reduce social isolation.
  • Complementary therapies including gentle body massage, reiki, reflexology, and indian head massage delivered in up to 4 sessions to aid rest and restoration of the body and mind.
  • Auricular Acupuncture for support with insomnia, pain, peripheral neuropathy, cancer and chemo fatigue, anxiety, and cortisone stress levels, delivered over a specialist 6-week programme for maximum effect.
  • Weekly drop-in sessions for anyone affected by cancer wanting general advice and guidance with referrals to other services.
  • Cancer Awareness and myth busting workshops to advance education about cancer, prevention and increase healthy living.
  • Our new service starting in January 2024 - Financial advice and practical money management workshops to reduce the impact on families with cancer and/or bereavement.
