Hull and East Yorkshire Childrens University

Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Children’s University is a charity that strives to give every child the opportunities they deserve, no matter what circumstances they were born into.

Many children around Hull and the East Riding do not have the same opportunities that other children have in the UK. Many have never been much further than the street in which they live and some children will never visit another city until they reach adulthood. Because of this, some children don’t have dreams for the future.

HEY Children’s University believes that every child is brilliant at something, but how can those children find out their unique talents if they don’t have the opportunity to try new things?

‘If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid’- Albert Einstein

HEY Children’s University gives children living in disadvantaged areas of Hull and EY the opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have and gives them the chance to discover their interests and talents- the chance to create their own dreams. The charity aims to light up every path that a child could take and show them their options.

We do this by taking full classes of children on experiences that broaden horizons, build confidence and raise aspirations. Our experiences include days at local businesses where the children learn about the industry, visits to other cities such as London and Edinburgh, offering sleepovers in exciting venues such as the Natural History Museum and the HMS Belfast battleship; a day on a farm learning about where some food items come from and many more (see our Schools section to see all experiences).

We also have a Children Looked After (CLA) Programme, offering experiences living in Foster Care and providing reading intervention sessions through our Letterbox Club.
