Refuge is the largest provider of specialist support for women and their children experiencing domestic abuse and gender-based violence in the UK. On any given day, we support thousands of survivors, and every two minutes someone looks to Refuge for help. Our services change lives and save lives. Refuge opened the world’s first safe house for abused women and their children in West London, in 1971.
Refuge runs the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, which is the gateway to accessing specialist support across the country. More than one in four women in England and Wales experiences domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime, and on average one woman is killed by a current or former partner every five days.
Refuge’s National Domestic Abuse Helpline is available on 0808 2000 247, 24 hours a day 7 days a week for free, confidential specialist support. Refuge also offers a live chat service, which is available 10am-10pm, Monday to Friday.
