Refuge
Make the World a Refuge

Film & Campaign Description

Trigger warning: This film contains depictions of domestic abuse, please take care when watching.

Renowned actor Billie Piper has partnered with Refuge for ‘Make the world a Refuge’, a powerful short film exploring the many different forms that domestic abuse can take.

One in four women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. In this film Billie performs real-life testimonies from survivors, highlighting the often subtle and evolving nature of domestic abuse. The testimonies include examples of coercive control, technology-facilitated abuse and financial abuse – alongside physical violence.

Produced by Refuge with pro-bono creative support from agency AMV BBDO, the film is directed by BAFTA winning ‘I Hate Suzie’ & ‘Kaos’ director Georgi Banks-Davies.

Domestic abuse shows up in so many ways, but so does Refuge. We support thousands of survivors on any given day, and every two minutes someone looks to Refuge for help.

The National Domestic Abuse Helpline can be reached on 0808 2000 247, available 24 hours a day 7 days a week for free, confidential specialist support. Alternatively, you can visit www.nationaldahelpline.org.uk to fill in a webform and request a safe time to be contacted or to access live chat, which is available 10am-10pm, Monday to Friday. For support with tech-facilitated abuse visit refugetechsafety.org.
