Do It For Her

Film & Campaign Description

The ‘Do It For Her’ film has been commissioned by the programme. The youth-led production company, Fully Focused, brought together an impressive cast led by Gangs of London star, Fady Elsayed, to tell the story of a young Muslim man who is struggling with his gambling addiction.

The film is even more poignant as it has been created by individuals who have lived experience of the impact of gambling harms.

Written by Mohammedally Shushtari and directed by award-winning, Shehroze Khan, the educational film will be shown in workshops for young people with the aim of increasing understanding of gambling harms, highlighting the signs of harm and encouraging people to have open conversations. The cast also includes a number of talented support cast including Malikai Niwaka, Jonathan Hansler, Patsy Prince and Fred Nwaka.

YGAM

YGAM is an award-winning charity with a social purpose to inform, educate, and safeguard young people about gaming and gambling harms. Our vision and strategy are guided by and contribute to the Gambling Commission’s National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Related Harms. Through our portfolio of education programmes, we provide free training and resources for teachers, youth workers, practitioners, universities, faith leaders and health professionals. All our resources, training and education programmes have been independently scrutinised, challenged, evaluated and quality marked by a wide range of organisations. A critical part of all these evaluations is being able to demonstrate clear independence and an evidenced-based approach.

"Preventing Gambling Harms in Diverse Communities" programme is a pioneering programme which has been launched in Greater London and the Home Counties to raise awareness and address the issue of gambling harm disproportionately affecting young people from ethnic minority populations.

The initiative has been developed through a unique collaboration between YGAM and Gambling Education Network, independently evaluated by Clearview Research. The prevention programme will deliver free specialist workshops to young people from ethnic minority populations aged 14–24, as well as free training to community and faith leaders.
