Southern Hospice Group

Southern Hospice Group is a local charity made up of three hospices our local communities know, love and support: Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice near Arundel, Martlets in Hove and St Barnabas House in Worthing. Together, we support children, young people and adults who have life-limiting conditions. We help those we care for, and their loved ones, to make the most of the precious time they have left together. Our expert palliative services support local communities across Sussex and South East Hampshire – at our hospices and in people’s homes.

Our film 'We're here for you. Will you be here for us?' highlights the essential role our adult hospices play in supporting local communities in Sussex, but doesn’t shy away from the growing pressures coming from reductions in income and increased demand.

These pressures are creating uncertainty for communities as hospices consider which services they can continue to provide. Hospices like ours want to be here for many more years to come, but can't keep running at a loss.

Marc bravely shares his experience and his very real fear that, when his time comes, there may not be the option of a hospice bed for him. We're so incredibly grateful to Marc for sharing how important hospice care has been to his family, and what it means to him. His fear is the same fear shared by families across the UK every day, and it's why we as a Group are pressing for more sustainable funding for hospices across the country.

It is the first time we as a newly merged group have created a joint adult hospice film for our winter appeal, and we are so proud of everyone's contribution to making it happen - from clinical teams who helped us represent our services to the patients who agreed to be part of the film. We couldn't have represented this story without them all.
