Through Their Eyes is a powerful fundraising film developed by creative agency MOREVER for Haven House Children’s Hospice. The film tells a different story of hospice care, through the eyes of six-year-old Charlie, and his older brother, Dylan. By putting the audience directly into their world, it reveals the joy, comfort and connection they experience at Haven House, and how being there has helped them forge a special relationship. This child’s perspective on the hospice experience immerses the viewer in the tactile and sensory world found there. Charlie doesn’t use words to communicate, Dylan’s voiceover, offers a glimpse into how Charlie experiences joy in ways that are deeply personal and profound.
While it’s tempting to pull heartstrings through pity, struggle, and sacrifice, we chose to tell a different story - the fullness of Charlie’s life, thanks to Haven House. By putting him at the centre of the story we wanted to shift the narrative around end-of-life care for children, focusing not on the challenges, but on the joy, connection, and meaningful experiences that are possible for seriously ill children.
In addition to fostering empathy and understanding, we sought to shift public perceptions of hospice care - showing that it’s a place not of sadness, but of life, love, and connection.
Haven House Children’s Hospice cares for seriously ill babies and children (up to the age of 18) by creating a loving and warm environment for them and their families while they go through the toughest of times.
No family should have to face alone the difficulties of looking after a child with a serious illness. Although we cannot change their diagnosis, our specialist care team are here to provide support to parents and carers who have children with complex medical needs. Many of our children need 24-hour care and supervision. We are a lifeline for these families supporting them through their child’s illness. We are here for the whole family including mums, dads, brothers, sisters and grandparents.
Haven House provides round the clock care at our hospice, surrounded in beautiful grounds and woodland, in Woodford Green and through our outreach services in the home and local community. We provide; day care, over-night stays, end of life care, bereavement support, as well as life enriching activities such as sensory play, music therapy and physiotherapy.
We provide care and support where and when our families need us. Hospice care does not mean that a child is near to the end of their life, we are here from the time a devastating diagnosis is made to help our families have choice, quality of life and to make the most of the precious time they have together.
