The Butterfly tells the story of a butterfly which has been trapped under a glass and is close to giving up. It’s journey to freedom mirrors the effort, determination and willpower it takes for people in our recovery community to admit that they need help and seek out the support and connections to help them get to where they want to be.
The project was the creation of a small sub-group of the Waythrough Life Experience Council. The objective of the film is to make coming into services less scary or overwhelming for people.
The Life Experience Council worked with Yoan Segot to animate the work as they fell in love with his storytelling and sensitivity. For the early part of the project we met weekly listening to the audio submissions, drawing out the themes, throwing around ideas for the artwork and then starting to form the flow of the story. Dealing with people’s experiences and emotions made us especially sensitive to getting it right for everyone who had contributed. We treasured every story and it was an uplifting experience to bring them to life. Slowly over a period of seven months, from March until October, the Butterfly came to life. just in time for the launch of Waythrough as a new charity formed as a result of the merger between Humankind, Richmond Fellowship and Aquarius. The Butterly premiered at the online launch event on 1st October. Now that we have such a beautiful and unique film we hope that it will form part of the way that Waythrough introduces itself to partners, people we support and new staff.
Our high quality, evidence-based services are designed around the needs of the people we serve.
We know that people and their problems don’t fit into neatly labelled boxes. And that finding help can be hard when life gets messy.
Too many people hit dead ends when they need open doors and answers.
That’s where Waythrough comes in.
To everyone that comes through our doors, we promise:
Wherever you are now, we won’t judge or write you off.
We’ll help you work out who you want to be and where you want to go.
We’ll stick with you until you’re ready to move on.
