While a ceasefire has been announced in Gaza, very few families are returning. Many children simply have nowhere to go with no safe way to return from Egypt, and no food or sanitary infrastructure to go back to. There is no food, no sanitation, and no functioning schools in much of Gaza.
Right now, hundreds of displaced children are living as refugees in Cairo, without access to the basic tools they need to keep learning.
We need your help and support.
Your organisation can make an immediate difference. By donating or fundraising for SchoolBags, you can help restore an element of normality and learning for a child who has lost everything.
Our Mission: 3,500 SchoolBags for Gaza’s Children
We are urgently appealing to fund and deliver 3,500 SchoolBags, each filled with essential learning materials, including exercise books, pencils, maths sets, a lunchbox, a water bottle, and hygiene items.
Each SchoolBag costs just £25 and provides not only education, but also a sense of routine, belonging and hope.
Working with our trusted partner, the Hope and Justice Foundation in Cairo, we aim to fund 500 SchoolBags every three weeks over a two- to three-month period. Distribution will take place in safe community spaces near schools, helping children regain a vital part of childhood that conflict has taken away.
The demand for SchoolBags continues to grow daily as more families arrive. Without these essential resources, children risk falling further behind in their education at a time when stability and learning are most critical.
There is no political agenda, only a mission to support children and families who have endured the unimaginable.
Together, we can turn despair into hope, one SchoolBag at a time.
School in a Bag is a UK-based educational charity, sending SchoolBags filled with stationery and eating utensils to disadvantaged children around the world. A SchoolBag costs £25 to fund (including all the contents and shipping), plus they are individually numbered so the donor gets to find out exactly where in the world their bag has gone – more often than not, donors are able to see an image of the beneficiary of their SchoolBag.
A SchoolBag is a simple solution, each filled with essential resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves, eat, drink and above all, learn. A typical SchoolBag contains: pencils, biros, colouring pencils, a maths set, ruler, pencil case, 6 exercise books, a water bottle, a lunch box with spork and a hygiene kit which includes a flannel, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste.
To date over 164,000 SchoolBags have been distributed to children in 63 countries. Every SchoolBag is new, individually numbered and trackable via the School in a Bag website.
