Rethink Mental Illness
Peter and Janine's Story: Surrey Support After Suicide Service

Film & Campaign Description

Peter and Janine's youngest daughter, Becky, took her own life in 2023.

For #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we spoke to them about her experience of mental illness and their bereavement journey.

The help that Peter and Janine received from our Surrey Support After Suicide service has enabled them to navigate intense grief. But worryingly, they are very much not alone in what they went through.

In fact, someone took their own life every 85 minutes in England and Wales in 2024.

We're determined to create a society that truly cares for people affected by mental illness. But for that to happen, we need to see meaningful change to make sure that fewer people are taking their own lives.

In the meantime, navigating suicide bereavement is devastating. We're proud to provide life-changing services to the people who are going through the unthinkable, like Peter and Janine.
