Out of the Quiet was created for our Big Give Christmas Appeal, helping raise over £180,000 to support older people experiencing loneliness and social isolation and to grow the volunteer network that makes our services possible.
The film brings together the real stories of three older people whose lives have been quietly shaped by isolation, and then transformed through companionship and friendship found via our services. While each story is different, they are united by a shared experience: the positive impact that simple, consistent human connection can have on the quality of our lives.
Rather than presenting loneliness as a statistic, the film invites viewers into everyday moments — conversations, laughter, and small but meaningful changes — showing how relationships rebuild confidence, purpose, and joy.
Created to inspire empathy and action, Out of the Quiet also played a key role in the success of our wider Christmas appeal, helping us reach new supporters and future volunteers, and enabling us to support more older people through life-enhancing social connections. It is a film about hope, dignity, and the power of friendship at any age.
We're Re-engage, and we’re reducing loneliness in later life by providing vital, life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing.
Our friendly social gatherings, empowering activity groups, and supportive call befriending services offer vital lifelines to people aged 75 and over, helping them feel seen, heard and part of a community again.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and the generosity of our supporters, we can continue offering these crucial services across the UK, free of charge.
