World Villages for Children is pleased to share this feature-length documentary about their work with the Sisters of Mary - ending poverty through education. The Sisters of Mary schools welcome any child in poverty regardless of religion, gender or race. Under their care the most deprived boys and girls enjoy an accredited, value-led education that provides a sound framework for the development of capable, independent, and empowered adults.
Irmas: The Life of the Sisters of Mary tells the story of how the Sisters of Mary reach out to the world's poorest children to offer them a place in school where they can be safe, cared for, and receive a life-changing education. World Villages for Children is based in the UK and supports the Sisters of Mary through fundraising and awareness raising. Together, we work in The Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil, and Tanzania. Across all of our programmes, we support over 20,000 children every year into education.
This film was made by generous supporters, Caroline Duclert and Charles Guilleman, filmmakers by profession, who wanted to help spread the word about the Sisters' work. It was made as a gift to the Sisters, to help them reach more people.
Irmas, which means "Sisters" in Portuguese, shows how the Sisters travel to meet children in need to offer them a free place in school. The film follows the journey of the children, exploring where they come from, the challenges they face growing up in extreme poverty, and the struggle they face just to access one of their most basic human rights - an education.
The film was shot on location in Brazil, Tanzania, and the Philippines, showing how the humanitarian education programmes that World Villages for Children and the Sisters of Mary run and the dramatic impact they have on the lives of individual children and their families. In this film, you will meet the children and graduates whose lives have been changed for the better by the quality education and care provided by the Sisters.
Every vote for this film helps us reach more people and the more people who support with donations, the more children we can bring into a place in school.
