In Their Own Words is a powerful film created in collaboration with staff and young people from Richmond’s Hope and Different Video films. The film features voices and lived experiences of young people who have been impacted by grief. It gives a platform to bereaved children and young people, allowing them to express in their own words what grief feels like and how compassionate, specialist support can help them life well with their grief.
By blending personal testimony with thoughtful storytelling, In Their Own Words brings to light the challenges faced and the strength found by the children and young people we work with as they navigate their own grief journey.
As an entrant in the Smiley Charity Film Awards, this film aims to raise awareness, spark meaningful conversations, and connect audiences with the heart of our mission.

Richmond's Hope is a charity that supports bereaved children aged 4-18. Through therapeutic play & specialised grief activities we provide individual support sessions for children to explore memories, feelings and coping strategies to help navigate grief. We are passionate about opening up conversations and helping build a truly grief-confident society.
