National Prison Radio

We are the award-winning national charity that uses radio and podcasts to support people who have been to prison across England and Wales.

We run National Prison Radio (NPR); the world's first national radio station for people in prison, launched in 2009. Made by prisoners, for prisoners, National Prison Radio provides:

  • Reliable, clear signposting to opportunities, resources, and services for people in prison
  • A positive community
  • A trusted voice, which inspires prisoners to make positive, long-lasting changes in their lives
  • Opportunities to gain new skills and find pathways within the creative sector and beyond
  • Rehabilitative audio content which improves physical and mental wellbeing

Our radio station reaches up to 80,000 people behind bars across England and Wales and broadcasts into prison cells 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 89% of people in prison across England and Wales listen to NPR with 51% tuning in every single day. National Prison Radio has become a central part of prison life.
