Manta Trust
Collaborative Conservation

Film & Campaign Description

The waters of the Bali Strait are incredibly fragile, facing increasing threats from overfishing, the climate crisis, and industrial pollution. Sharks and rays are particularly sensitive, with their habitat range overlapping target fishing areas, leading to rapidly declining populations.

The Mobula Project Indonesia is working hard to incentivise sustainable fisheries and reduce the capture of endangered sharks and rays. We're excited to announce their newest initiative, the Sustainable Seafood Network!

The Sustainable Seafood Network is a collaborative effort between conservationists, fishers, and the hospitality sector to improve fishing practices in Muncar.

Fishers commit to avoiding the capture of endangered shark and ray species, safely releasing any accidentally caught, and only catching non-threatened commercial fish. In return, restaurants, resorts, and hotels in Bali commit to buying sustainably caught fish from Muncar fishers at a premium price.
