Free Movement Skateboarding
A Mobile Community

Film & Campaign Description

A mini documentary by Markus Bengtsson.

Free Movement, an NGO focusing on fostering solidarity through skate classes in Athens. And two remarkable women, both named Denia, who nurture wellbeing and equality, on and off the board. With their mobile skatepark and weekly sessions across Greece’s capital, they create spaces of safety, inclusivity, and empowerment for youth from all walks of life, including refugees. It is their story that is told through this documentary.

Free Movement Skateboarding

On and off the board, Free Movement Skateboarding pushes for a welcoming and diverse skate scene and society from its mobile skatepark and youth centre in Athens, Greece since 2017. FMS delivers skateboard sessions, youth development programming and community events to promote the core values of wellbeing, empowerment and social cohesion in an inclusive and safe environment.

The organisation's main aim is to empower all youth, with a focus on migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, Roma, girls and those with disabilities, reinforcing that if they can achieve on the board, they can achieve elsewhere. As programs target disadvantaged communities and partner projects working with these groups, Free Movement promotes social cohesion, bringing together youth that wouldn’t otherwise meet, building community beyond the skate sessions.
