St Helena Hospice stories: In the name of love

“We made another memory and that was lovely to still be making memories at that particular stage of his life.”

Neil and Pete met 47 years ago at a dinner party in Johannesburg, South Africa. They fell in love straight away and their relationship only strengthened over time as they faced financial hardship, unemployment and homophobia. Neil and Pete followed their dream by moving to England, eventually settling on the north east Essex coast. When Neil became ill, he chose to have hospice support. Pete shares their story in this short film…

St Helena Hospice

St Helena Hospice provides specialist end of life care and support for patients over 16 and their loved ones living in north east Essex who face incurable illness and bereavement. Services include the hospice, hospice in the home, SinglePoint 24/7 advice line and rapid response, and bereavement support for children and adults regardless of where and how their loved one died. The emphasis for this charity is about quality of life for everyone, regardless of circumstance, to help people live well with incurable illness and die with dignity in a place of their choice.
