Hope for Justice
A Call From Home

Film & Campaign Description

This film was created to tell the story of a male victim of modern slavery as part of our Men Aren’t Victims awareness campaign. Over 10 million victims of modern slavery are men - and even more male victims are likely to be hidden away, uncounted. We wanted to raise awareness about this often-overlooked group.

The 3m43s film shares the experiences of a man who is enticed to find work in another country, but who finds himself in situations of forced labour, exploitation, control and barely any pay. He receives a call from his wife back home, but due to shame and fear finds himself unable to share his experiences or how bad things are. The story is based on real-life experiences of survivors that Hope for Justice has supported - stories filled with phrases we hear all too often, such as "I wanted to provide for my family". The type of phrases that show why men often don't seek help, even in dire circumstances.

At Hope for Justice we want to live in a world where everyone is free from human trafficking and we believe we can be the generation to achieve that.

This film and our wider Men Aren’t Victims awareness campaign are part of our commitment to driving forward the aims of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This campaign is particularly relevant to Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and is also relevant to Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and Goal 16 (Pease, Justice and Strong Institutions).

Hope for Justice

Hope for Justice is a charity working to bring an end to modern slavery and human trafficking, and to protect the human rights of victims and survivors. Our model is based on four pillars: preventing exploitation; rescuing victims; restoring lives; and reforming society.

Founded in the UK in 2008, Hope for Justice now works across five continents. We help victims and survivors in the UK and around the world while also campaigning for long-term change.
