Tom Harrison House

Tom Harrison House is a specialist facility providing an addiction recovery programme exclusively to military veterans, reservists, emergency personnel, and their families. In meaningful partnership with other agencies, we provide trauma-informed addiction therapy through a “sensory and wellbeing” model of care, support, therapy and education.

As such, we provide a wide range of face-to-face support from our recovery centre and supported housing in three distinct phases, addressing different stages of recovery. This commences with our open access services, followed by our 12-week quasi-residential programme and culminates in resettlement support when our veterans transition back into their community.

The primary programme runs over the 12-week quasi-residential period and includes a diverse range of recovery-focused activities and therapeutic groups, together with individual sessions and family work. We provide supported accommodation for the programme duration in dedicated recovery houses. Programme elements include personal recovery planning, assignment groups, interpersonal group therapy and reintegration work alongside equine therapy, art therapy, nutrition, physical fitness, yoga, and mindfulness. Education and therapies initiate the changes to behaviour and thinking that are required to develop and sustain a life of abstinence-based recovery. Our approach is needs-led and person-centred and supported by dedicated keyworkers delivering structured one-to-one support through each stage, alongside buddy support from peers further advanced in recovery.

There is a 24/7 staff presence.

THH’s sensory and wellbeing model promotes full recovery, incorporating elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, motivational enhancement therapy and a range of evidence-based psychosocial interventions, NICE-compliant and therapeutic approaches.
